Sentence Terms
- phrase - a group of words that does not contain a subject and a verb
- clause - a group of words that contains both a subject and a verb
- independent clause - a clause in a sentence that can stand alone or as a complete sentence
- subordinate clause - another term for dependent clause- a clause that looks like a sentence in a sentence that can't stand alone
- coordinating conjunctions- FANBOYS ,for ,and ,nor ,but ,or ,yet ,so used to make compound sentences
- subordinating conjunctions - a conjunctions such as if , because , since that introduces a dependent clause
- compound sentence - a sentence that consists of two or more independent clauses connected by fanboys
- complex sentence - a sentence that has one independent clause and one or more dependent clause
- run-on sentence - two or more sentences that are run together with commas or without any punctuation
- fragment - missing a subject or a verb; does not express a complete thought
